Archos is expected to officially announce their new Android powered Internet Media Tablet on September 15th. Android provides the IMT with all the functionalities of a premium smartphone and access to its fast-developing applications environment with ARCHOS’ rich and proven multimedia framework will deliver the best entertainment and web-browsing experience. According to Pocketables, it’ll have a 5-inch WVGA touchscreen capable of 720p playback (with HDMI output), 3.5G mobile internet, up to 500GB HDD, 7 hour battery life as well as 3.5G connectivity built in and has natively embedded OpenGL libraries. We’re hoping the touchscreen’ll be capacitive rather than resistive like Archos’s last MIDs. Along with the launch, Archos have now launched AppsLib that is an application store for high-end Android devices such as the tablet mentioned here and other potential netbooks that will run the Android OS. We’re pretty excited about this new crop of HD video-playing gadgets (like the Zune HD), and if this materializes it could be a really impressive next-gen PMP.
